Travelling is not cheap - especially to different side of the world. With common sense and advance work it is however possible to save great amount of money. We have gathered here a small expense estimate so it is possible to compare prices and plan your journey.

Flights:
We booked our flights from STA-Travel, which has a great deal of discounted prices for students and youths. Round-trip from Helsinki (HKI) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was 666 euros with all taxes included.

Accommodation:

Orbit hotel and hostel	First eight nights in Los Angeles we stayed in Orbit Hotel and Hostel, which was ideally located to Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Place was relatively cheap (about 55€ for a room per night), very modest, but clean and everybody were very friendly there. Hostel also had trips to various sightseeings every day as well as visits to local bars and night clubs.

Hotel Emporio Tijuana	In Mexico we stayed in Hotel Emporio Tijuna, which was very good 5-star hotel. Hospitality and service was very good, and hotel food was awesome. Room price per night was some 80€.

Circus Circus in Las Vegas	Las Vegas was also pretty cheap (maybe they think people will gamble all money), night in Circus Circus was 65 euros for a room. In Vegas we were two nights. Circus Circus is one of the biggest hotels in the world. There are over 3770 rooms, own amusement park and all kinds of shops and action all day long.

Hyatt Grand Champions and Spa	The most expensive place was in Palm Springs where discounted room without taxes and resort fees was 160€ for a night. Typical suite price for a night is 250€. Hyatt Grand Champions and Spa was anyway awesome and very beautiful place.

Car:

Rental car

Sta-Travel also took care of our car rental. We rent a car (year 2005 Chrysler Sebring convertible) for eight days. Total price was 400 euros. A full tank of fuel was included to the price. We drove about 1700 kilometers, so some 160 euros was spent to fuel in overall.

Sightseeings:
We visited some museums in Hollywood ($10-$20/each), took sightseeing tour in Hollywood ($40), visited Universal Studios ($50) and NHL-game ($40).

Food, shopping, gifts, bar, gambling...:
Visa-invoice always suprises you.. ;) Night life is quite expensive in US, but of course you also have to eat something and buy some souvernies. Our original daily budget per person was some 50€, but total amount was somewhere in 80€. Anyway, once you go to whole different side of the world, money really doesn't count.
